Did you know that your next haircut could help the environment? Evangelista Hair Salon is proud to announce its participation in a unique program to recycle hair clippings that are swept from the salon floor. The clippings are then turned into “hair mats” that are used to soak up oil spills — not only from industrial ships, but in work environments such as automobile repair shops. The eco-friendly mats are also used as a natural fertilizer for gardening; the slow protein release from the hair is environmentally friendly and especially effective in aiding the growth of flowers. The hair mat program was launched in 2000 by the public charity Matter of Trust.
